چکیده

It has been known for quite some time that materials and structures with small-scale dimensions do not behave in the same manner as their bulk counterparts. This aspect was first observed in thin films where certain defect structures were found to have deleterious effects on the film’s structural integrity and reliability. This became a significant concern because thin films are routinely employed as components in microelectronics and microelectromechanical systems (MEMS). Their properties frequently allow essential device functions and therefore accurate identification of these properties is key to the development of new technologies. Unfortunately, most of our knowledge is based on bulk material behavior, which many times fails to describe material response in small-scale dimensions because of the dominance of surface and interface effects, finite number

Nanomechanics for MEMS: a structural design perspective.

Nanomechanics and structural design of MEMS are intimately tied together. As mechanical properties of hard materials are found to be strongly sample-size dependent, new criteria are in demand for size-dependent structural analysis and design of MEMS components. The paper offers a critical survey of some of the most interesting and challenging advances in nanomechanics of metals from a MEMS desi...

Study Of Thermoelastic Damping in an Electrostatically Deflected Circular Micro-Plate Using Hyperbolic Heat Conduction Model

Thermoelastic damping (TED) in a circular micro-plate resonator subjected to an electrostatic pressure is studied. The coupled thermo-elastic equations of a capacitive circular micro plate are derived considering hyperbolic heat conduction model and solved by applying Galerkin discretization method. Applying complex-frequency approach to the coupled thermo-elastic equations, TED is obtained for...

Nanomechanics of the Cartilage Extracellular Matrix.

Cartilage is a hydrated biomacromolecular fiber composite located at the ends of long bones that enables proper joint lubrication, articulation, loading, and energy dissipation. Degradation of extracellular matrix molecular components and changes in their nanoscale structure greatly influence the macroscale behavior of the tissue and result in dysfunction with age, injury, and diseases such as ...

Hierarchial Models of Nanomechanics and Micromechanics

An overview of theoretical and computational methods in the rapidly advancing field of Nanomechanics and Micromechanics of materials is given. This overview emphasizes the Multiscale Modelling of Materials (MMM) approach, which relies on a reduction of the degrees of freedom at natural length scales. Two main challenges are identified in the MMM approach: (i) the computational complexity of ful...
